Explore Sheridan

There are many tell tale signs that fall has arrived in Sheridan, Wyoming – the crispness in the air, football games returning to the gridiron, flannel shirts, pumpkin spice lattes (pumpkin spice anything!) and of course, the fiery hues of yellow and orange painting the cottonwood and oak all throughout the county.

To ring in the beginning of fall, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite autumn activities in Sheridan:

IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN

Follow in the footsteps of Linus and Lucy to scout out the best pumpkin in the patch. Koltiska’s Pumpkin Patch offers free hayrides, refreshments and pumpkins galore for the picking. The pumpkin patch is located at 120 Cat Creek Road and open to the public Wednesday through Friday from 3-6pm and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6pm.

THE RACE IS ON

Get your fill of crisp fall air by participating in one of the many races throughout the month of October. For a fun run or walk combined with a game of color tag, join the COMBAT Color Fun Run (October 7). Wear your pink and support a great cause by participating in the Link – Partners in Pink Run/Walk (October 21) or don your Halloween costume for the Morning Mayhem Halloween 6k Race and 1 Mile Kids Run (October 28). Don’t miss the Sheridan Community Land Trust’s 7th Annual Biketoberfest (October 7) when you can partake in various bike races, runs and competitions followed by fun, food trucks and beer.

FALL FLAVORS

Embrace the flavors of fall with special seasonal offerings at local restaurants and coffee shops. Andi’s Coffee House whips up an excellent Pumpkin Pie Latte while Black Tooth has crafted an outstanding Oktoberfest that you must try. Look for seasonal specials at Frackelton’s and your favorite autumn inspired baked goodies at Java Moon.

HUNTING SEASON

Tis the season to hunt for bucks – dollars that is. During the month of October, visit any participating downtown store for a chance to win Chamber Bucks as part of the DSA “Hunting for Bucks” shopping campaign. A grand prize will also be awarded.

FULL MOON FORT

Enjoy a historical and ghostly evening tour of Fort Phil Kearny. Guided lantern and daylight tours provide guests with a dynamic tour including grisly details of fort life and real characters at Fort Phil Kearny during the time of Red Cloud’s War against the Bozeman Trail Forts. (October 6-7)

MUSIC TO YOUR EARS

Music and melodies fill the fall calendar.  A local favorite, Tris Munsick, will be playing at the Gallery on Main (October 26) and PubliQuartet will be at the Whitney Center (October 28) lending a fresh perspective to the classic music scene. Also performing at the Whitney Center are the Whitney Center Jazz Orchestra (November 17) and the Sheridan College Wind Ensemble (November 9). The WYO Gala 2017 will feature the feel-good musical comedy of Sister Act. (October 21)

LEAF PEEPING

If your favorite color is October, you’ll love peeping for leaves around Sheridan County. For all the oranges, reds and yellows, enjoy a walk or bike ride along the tree-lined Sheridan Pathways or take a short drive and hike the Tongue River Canyon or the Red Grade Trail.
