Sheridan Wyo Rodeo, Local Rodeos, County Fair
- The Wild West rides again in the Sheridan WYO Rodeo, the largest single go-round PRCA rodeo in the country, mixing buckin' bronc action with a week of festivities, including a pancake breakfast, Beds Along the Big Horns bed race, Sneakers and Spurs foot race and a parade.
Sheridan is steeped in Western culture. From May to the end of September, the Sheridan County Fairgrounds features a rodeo or roping; young and old, men and women participate. The local's favorite - the County Fair features young people and their livestock or pets in a family-filled event.

- Sheridan is synonymous with paradise - fresh water streams and the majestic Big Horn Mountains which border the community on the west. Enjoy a drive in the country where wildlife are abundant or hike the Big Horns and find the unusual. Remember to bring your camera.
Hiking, Biking, Backpacking, and Spelunking
- Hiking, biking, and camping in the wilderness area are a few of the recreational opportunities available in the Big Horns. Cloud Peak Wilderness Area is impressive. Rock climb Steamboat Rock or in Tongue River Canyon. Get in a little mountain biking.
There's plenty of space and the views are sensational. Reservations are required for those staying in the wilderness areas and a good idea for people who want to camp in the Bighorn National Forest. And Tongue River Canyon has a vast cave system explored by many curious spelunkers.
Sheridan can boast of many blue ribbon trout streams. Solitary fishing is the norm not the unusual. Fly fish just miles from town - plenty of options for anglers.
Western History
- Sheridan lies in the heart of Great Plains history - monuments, museums and historic sites mark its notable past. Bozeman Trail Days is held during the month of June, on the grounds of Fort Phil Kearny located on "The Bloody Bozeman Trail." This fort was burned to the ground by Indians when the government abandoned this trail.
The area is rich in historic sites from the Indian Wars: Fetterman Massacre site, Wagon Box Fight site, Connor battlefield are just a few in the area. Make Sheridan your base and visit Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, the Rosebud Battle site and many other historic sites located in the region and just a short drive from Sheridan.

Sheridan is Wyoming's golf capitol. The scenic beauty only adds to the quality experience of golfing at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. Five quality courses are located within a half hour's drive of Sheridan. Three are only minutes from the downtown area. Opportunities for golfing on a championship course can be yours in Sheridan.
Sheridan County could once boast of having the oldest polo field in the nation. Today, the Big Horn Equestrian Center is home to polo held every Sunday throughout the summer.
There are several lakes located near Sheridan. Lake DeSmet is located 20 minutes south of town. Tongue River Reservoir is located just north of the border in Montana. Both provide opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and water skiing.
