Sheridan supports tourism. And this was recently evident by the overwhelming 73.8 percent renewal of the lodging tax!

This support will enable us not only to continue, but to enhance Sheridan Travel and Tourism's programs and promotions to allow us to become even better known as a tourism destination in many markets, from regional to international, over the next four years.
And continuing and enhancing we are, at a rather exciting pace. Get ready to welcome Roger St. Pierre, editor of Holiday & Leisure World, from London to experience and write about our "Old-fashioned Small-town Christmas"!
Our most recent Press trip announcement and cooperative efforts with Wyoming Travel & Tourism are bringing Mr. St. Pierre to Sheridan to enjoy our holiday festivities starting with the Christmas Stroll on November 26.
He will partake of the Main Street thoroughfare festivities in all the holiday splendor, as Strollers enjoy shopping and riding old-fashioned trolleys, horse-drawn wagons and vintage fire trucks while stopping to enjoy live entertainment, a moment with Santa Claus as he greets children, and concluding with the fireworks display!
His weekend continues with a performance of "The Nutcracker" at the WYO Theater, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" at the Carriage House Theater and the opening of "Seasons of the Bighorns" art show at Bradford Brinton Memorial & Museum.
His high interest in Wyoming history will then expose him to an overview of our historic Main Street District, Sheridan Inn and Buffalo Bill, Trail End, Sheridan County Historic Society Museum, Fort Phil Kearny, King's Museum and so much more!
The success with international or any type of publicity only happens with coordinated effort and community support, whether the support is hosting and touring media representatives or renewing the lodging tax to fund these varied promotions.
The many sources of support — letters to the editor, newsletter articles, promoting the lodging tax renewal, financial support, as well as your vote on Nov. 2 "For" the renewal — are appreciated by our Travel & Tourism Action Committee and the Sheridan Travel and Tourism Board of Commissioners and staff!
This action allows us to continue to progressively promote the Sheridan area as a destination! The latest statistics, from 2002 and 2003, reveal an exciting side of Sheridan's tourism success:

As the marketing arm for Sheridan, STT offers cooperative opportunities to our local tourism businesses to benefit the community as a whole. An enhanced presence for Sheridan, as well as reasonable costs to all participants, is successfully accomplished by partnering.
What supports these vital promotional opportunities? STT offers many programs presenting Sheridan as a tourism destination through the local lodging tax, the tax locals do not pay! This tax is collected from visitors staying in city hotels, motels, B&Bs, and RV parks.
Classic examples of excellent cooperative efforts already hard at work span from print and broadcasting promotions to billboards, grants, advertisements, and education!
Magazine editors, book authors and Web site hosts continue to feature all we have to offer in the Sheridan area — The West at its Best! Due to our area's key tourism draws — historic sites, events and activities, lodging accommodations and restaurants — that so enthusiastically and diligently serve as hosts with us, we readily provide great panoramic Western experiences that entice public relations, and thus visitors to Sheridan.
A sampling of our recent public relations includes last month's visitors — ‘editors of five national magazines and Web sites. They enjoyed the weekend tour we coordinated with our local tourism partners. And their first article is already being published, highlighting local movie productions and nightlife.
Watch for more to come! Also, a three-page lead-in story in international Essentially America Magazine, national coverage in Sunset Magazine, and a three-page feature article in AAA MountainWest.
STT also just extended a press announcement to kick off our winter media blitz featuring our holiday season, ranging from the Christmas Stroll in the heart of the Historic Downtown district to Trail End Holiday Open House, the WYO Theater's “Nutcracker,” and opening of the Seasons of the Big Horns art show at Bradford Brinton Memorial. And finalizing with the historic walking tour of the Fetterman Battlefield.
Co-op advertisements, targeting over 9 million visitors, expand our presence in 44 regional, national and international magazines this year. Whether historic sites, events or lodging properties, these tourism-related businesses have access to affordable advertising for all seasons, including AAA Magazines, Colorado GolfPGA, SnoWest, Rapid City Visitor, and Group Tour.
Another example of cooperative efforts is revealed in our three-state, 12-billboard campaign drawing the “rubber-tire market” traveling to Sheridan. Together we showcase Sheridan on Interstates 25 and 90 presenting enticing messages such as Sheridan ... For Western History! with WY Parks & Historic Sites; Sheridan Cody Historic Route To Yellowstone with Park County Tourism; Wyoming's Golf Capital with area golf courses; Sheridan ... For Golf! with the city of Sheridan; and Sheridan For Any Season with Sheridan College.
The STT grant programs are our most prominent and effective support to local event organizers. The grants provide dollars to support their event promotions bringing visitors from near and far.
These grant dollars are used to target events and conventions brought to the area. Event hosts and Sri, work to build relationships with these groups to bring events and visitors back year after year.
To grow as a tourism destination, Sheridan Travel and Tourism sponsors a Tourism Association as our educational tool. Meeting topics have included focus on Wyoming cooperative programs and enhanced offerings through vacation packaging — the hot draw for tourism destinations.
More than 10,000 monthly visitors explore Sheridan's vacation packages, Day Trips, seasonal activities, etc. at our website. Explore these opportunities out your back door.
Sheridan Travel and Tourism is aggressive in our promotional efforts and goals to benefit the area, as tourism is vital to our economic stability and growth, contributing substantially to our cultural and social well-being!
With the most current 2002 figures, Sheridan County travel spending was $63.7 million, tourism earnings $18.7 million, and tourism-related employment 1,060 jobs.
In addition, each family's annual taxation is reduced by $450 due to the additional tax receipts generated by tourist spending.
The need for a marketing arm for the city of Sheridan has never been stronger. With fierce competition in the tourism industry, it is essential that Sheridan Travel and Tourism continue to enhance and expand our promotional efforts for a community presence throughout the world.
