Tour operators representing the second largest travel agency in Germany are expected in Sheridan tonight for an evening and morning of sightseeing.
The event; called a "familiarization (fam) tour," is an opportunity to showcase Sheridan to 14 international tour and travel contacts, according to Penny Becker, director of Sheridan's Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB).
The Sheridan stop is part of an extended tour of Wyoming and South Dakota organized by the Wyoming Division of Travel and Tourism and Rocky Mountain International, a marketing organization that promotes Wyoming to European tour and travel-related businesses, Becker said.
The tour operators are scheduled to arrive in Sheridan this evening and have dinner at the Historic Sheridan Inn at 7:30 p.m.
A tour of the inn is scheduled to follow dinner.
Friday's itinerary includes a tour of the community via the city's new trolley bus, including stops at the Trail End State Historic Site and King's Saddlery and Museum.
The CVB and Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce routinely host fam tours for visiting groups including tour operators, travel agents and travel writers from throughout the United States and other countries.
Becker said, "Sheridan is fortunate to have so many individuals and businesses willing, ready and able to support and promote these types of groups coming to explore our beautiful, historic community."
She said businesses or organizations interested in hosting future travel groups should contact her at the CVB, 673-7120.
The Convention & Visitors Bureau administers funds from the city of Sheridan's 2 percent lodging tax collected by local lodging establishments.
