The ties that bind
In a frontier town 2,000 miles from the East Coast, one teen-ager teaches her neighbors that no American is a stranger.
Baltimore Sun, September 30, 2001
By Larry Bingham

This is a short summary of the article:

This article describes the fund-raising efforts of Ashley Roberts, a local teenager who was moved by the events of September 11, 2001. As she watched the events unfold on the television screen, she asked her sister, "What can we do when we live so far away?"

Ashley's sister Anna suggested making and selling ribbons and donating the proceeds to the American Red Cross.

With individual contributions, matching donations from local businesses, and donations from some local Foundations, the ribbon campaign had raised more than $33,000.
