Sheridan has been selected to host the 2002 convention of the Wyoming Association of Municipalities (WAM).
The convention will be June 12-16 and is expected to bring 300 to 400 participants to Sheridan’s Holiday Inn & Convention Center.
The last time Sheridan hosted the WAM convention was 10 years ago according to Penny Becker, executive director of the city’s Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. "We are ready!" she added.
The Sheridan convention committee used the theme "Making Dreams into Reality" in its bid for the 2002 convention site.
Becker and Shelly Hare with the Sheridan Holiday Inn won praise from WAM officials for their "excellent bid package."
Sheridan Mayor Jim Wilson said, "This will be a great opportu nity for the Sheridan community to show whai projects can be corn pleted by a unified citizenry. The cities and towns are looking forward to this visit."
Special events being planned for the five-day event include an early-bird reception Wednesday, a ‘Fore’ Golfers nament and welcome reception Thursday, city-hosted reception and dinner Friday and a President's Banquet Saturday.
Convention organizers also are planning a variety of tours - of Sheridan’s historic downtown, museums and other points of interest - as well as activities for families of those attending the convention.
