Visitors bureau grants aid events promotions

Sheridan's Convention & Visitors Bureau awarded nearly $10,000 in grants to local organizations this year to help bring visitors to the area.
The CVB's matching funds program is a big part of its job, says Executive Director Penny Becker.
The organization, which administers funds collected through the city's 2 percent lodging tax, may award matching grants of up to 50 percent of the promotional expense for an event -- up to a maximum $1,500.
Any organization with an event or promotion aimed at bringing visitors to the area may apply for matching funds by contacting the CVB office at the Information Center on East Fifth Street.
Events and promotions that have received funds this summer from CVB have brought, or are expected to bring, more than 36,000 visitors to the area, Becker said.
Events/promotions that have received CVB matching funds, the amount of funding and the attendance or anticipated attendance are shown below:
- Historic Sheridan Inn brochure -- received $424 on May 1 and is expected to bring 6,000 visitors to the inn and surrounding area.
- Trap Shoot Facilities brochure -- received $250 on May 1 and brought 324 visitors, according to Becker.
- Fort Phil Kearny promotions -- $1,000 for summer activities expected to bring more than 6,400 visitors to Sheridan and Johnson counties.
- WY/MT All-Star Classic -- $425 for the June 11 event that brought 1,900 visitors.
- Art Beyond Boundaries -- $425. The event was June 17-19 and brought 116 participants.
- 84th Annual Wyoming State Trap Shoot -- $1,450 for the June 30-July 4 event that brought 700 people to Sheridan.
- 14th Annual Chili Cook-off -- $500. The event was July 9-11 and brought 1,200 visitors.
- Sheridan-WYO Rodeo -- $1,500 for the July 13-18 event that brought an estimated 8,500 visitors to the community.
- Sheridan County Fair -- $750. The July 29-Aug. 3 event drew crowds estimated at 9,000.
- Little Llama Lovers 4H Club -- $367 for July 30-Aug. 1. There were an estimated 75 participants.
- Big Horn Mountain Polka Days -- $1,500. The event is to he Sept. 3-5 and is expected to bring 1,500 polka lovers to Sheridan.
