OLD WEST RODEO & POLO
This year marks the 18th annual Don King Days at the Big Horn Event Center, Sunday and Monday of Labor Day Weekend, September 3-4, 2006. Events begin both days at 11 a.m. and feature classic equine events like polo, the Wyoming Steer Roping Finals, matched bronc riding as well as a horseshoeing clinic/competition and for the second year, the Dude Horse Showdown.
The Dude Horse Showdown will feature horses from the HF Bar Dude Ranch ridden by polo players and ropers, but there is a twist – the ropers will be playing polo and the polo players will be roping. The fact that they’re riding dude horses will add to the excitement and unpredictability of the event.
Admission is $8.00 for adults and children under 12 are free. Sunday, September 3, will feature polo, the first round of the Wyoming Steer Roping Finals and the Dude Horse Showdown. Also scheduled for Sunday will be the Wyoming Professional Farriers Association horseshoeing clinic. The second round of the Wyoming Steer Roping Finals, polo and matched bronc riding will take place on Monday, September 4.
Don King Days is considered by over a thousand spectators to be the grand finale of summer fun. The event began when Don King, owner of King’s
Saddlery and renowned saddlemaker, and some local ranchers came up with this unique combination of equestrian events. The Big Horn Event Center’s few fences and big fields put the crowd right in the middle of all the action.
