Celebrate a bit of the Old West in the heart of Wyoming’s cowboy country. In Sheridan where the Old West meets the New West, recreation opportunities abound and there’s not a better time to enjoy them than fall.

Hang gliding is popular all summer and into late fall . . . when the weather and air drafts are just right, daredevils enjoy jumping into thin air off the face of the magnificent Big Horn Mountains. Spectators may watch and photograph hang gliders from across the nation as they soar above and beyond the Mountains at Sand Turn, west of Sheridan. The Hang Gliders Fly-In takes place September 2-4, and again over Memorial Day weekend in the Spring. For more inforation click here.

Rock Climbing opportunities are stellar in this area as well with premier ops at Steamboat Rock on top of the Big Horn mountains and Tongue River Canyon, both a short drive from town. Join other outdoor aficionados to challenge yourself in new locations around Sheridan.

Barn at the Powder Horn Golfers will find Sheridan a paradise of opportunity for all levels of expertise. Dubbed The Golf Capitol of Wyoming, Sheridan offers four championship courses within a 35-mile radius. The Powder Horn offers a 27-hole championship course which is rated in GolfWeek's top 100, while Kendrick’s 18 holes are rated in the top 5 courses in Wyoming by Golf Digest magazine. Don’t forget about the Old West History of Northeastern Wyoming. There are museums to visit in town and nearby historic sites which celebrate Native Americans and the opening of the West to pioneers and settlers.
