The Backyard | S3 EP2 – Hiking Adelaide Lake
There are autumn days in Sheridan County when the mountains don’t just turn—they ignite. This sojourn began at the Adelaide Trailhead, tucked into the dramatic folds of Shell Canyon just off the legendary Bighorn Scenic Byway, where canyon walls rise in amber and rust and aspens flash gold against a sky so sharp it feels etched in ink. The drive alone was worth it. But this wasn’t just a leaf-peeping cruise—it was a 13-mile backcountry adventure that our intrepid leader may or may not have described as “about five miles… round trip.” Two thousand feet of elevation gain later, with fall colors exploding around every bend and a crystalline alpine lake waiting at 9,300 feet, we decided being two hours late to start might have been the most honest part of the plan. Stay tuned for the entire adventure.
